90: Social Media, FOMO & Why It Really Doesn’t Matter

We’re all guilty of seeing someone’s highlights on social media and taking it upon ourselves to assume that the rest of their life is just as perfect. Cue the FOMO kicking in. In reality though there’s often so much more to it than the snapshot we see so this week we’re talking about why it’s so important to remember that social media is a snapshot and why really what you see doesn’t matter.

In theory, things should be going back to ‘normal’, but in reality the longer term effects of the past 18 months are just coming to light and that means we’re feeling anything but ‘normal’. In this episode we’re discussing why it’s so important that we don’t diminish the long term effects of the pandemic and why we’re unlikely to notice all of the social and economic impacts for some time.

In this week’s episode we’re talking about reframing thoughts and how this technique can be used to help with positive self talk, practising gratitude and as a way to challenge and change your daily thoughts if you often find yourself worrying or thinking negatively. 86: The Perfect Job Doesn’t Exist

There are often two extreme expectations of jobs: that it’s the norm to hate your job or you should find a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day. In this episode we’re talking about those unrealistic expectations of what the perfect job should or shouldn’t be. No job is perfect because there will always be good days and bad days, but that doesn’t mean the job isn’t right for you. We’re chatting about the signs to look out for if your job really isn’t for you and how it’s okay for your career priorities to change.

85: Creating Healthy Money Habits

Money is often a taboo topic, but that’s why we think it’s an important one to discuss. This week we’re chatting about how you can create and maintain healthy money habits, because it’s often not something you’re ever taught which makes navigating those important financial decisions later in life all the more difficult. In the episode we’re discussing money habits that work for us (and ones that don’t!) as well as small ways to make positive changes to your financial situation regardless of how much money you earn.

We can’t give financial advice but if you are in a difficult financial situation, there are free professional advice services available that can help you such as Citizens Advice Bureau, The Money Advice Service or gov.uk. We also find Martin Lewis’ moneysavingexpert.com really useful.

84: Anti-Racism Resources Pt 2

Last summer, some of you may remember that we shared an episode that focused on anti-racism resources. A year on we wanted to do another episode to not only recap those resources but also share the actions we’ve taken and resources we’ve found useful on our journey to be actively anti-racist and hold ourselves to account. We know there’s so much more still to do, and we will continue to do it. If you’ve found anything particularly useful in your anti-racism education please get in touch and share.

83: How To Shop More Sustainably

This week we’re discussing how we can start to shop in a more sustainable way. We all know that the fashion industry has a huge impact on the environment but we don’t always know where to start in reducing our individual impact. In this episode we’re discussing the importance of holding the industry to account, while also being accountable as individuals, how to start making better choices and the importance of striving for improvement, not perfection.

We’re only scratching the surface of this topic, if you want to read more here are some resources we’ve found helpful: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Htq4wMpoz9P_ZCc-k_B6nD9SQPnXES9cUKhPh4M6Rs0/edit#gid=1371181393

81: It’s Ok To Get It Wrong

Getting things wrong is part of life. We’ve all done it (and will do it again!) but it’s ok. No one is perfect but often we can be made to think that getting something wrong is the worst thing in the world, and it really isn’t. This episode is all about why it’s ok if you get it wrong sometimes, the things we’ve got wrong along the way and why the most important thing is getting up and learning from it.
