53: Guilt Trips & Self Forgiveness

TW: During the first recommendation there’s a brief chat about self-harm and suicide, if you’d rather not listen to this part just skip from 09.52 to 10.32

This fortnight we’re discussing guilt trips and forgiving yourself for your past mistakes. As perfectionists this isn’t always something we find easy but is something we’ve been working on and it’s a vital part of the growth process. We’re sharing the ways we’re trying to give ourselves a break and move on from mistakes in a more constructive way (spoiler, beating yourself up for days and weeks on end is not it.)

We always love hearing from you and your support means the world so please don’t forget to subscribe, rate and review the podcast on your chose podcast platform. You can always get in touch with us here:

52: Cancel Culture

Trigger Warning: This fortnight we’re discussing cancel culture and as part of that there is discussion of topics including sexual assault, transphobia and body image and body dysmorphia. If these are topics that you’d rather not hear discussed and you’d rather just listen to our catch up and recommendations then switch off at 29.12

This fortnight we’re diving into the topic of cancel culture, the pros, the cons and the nuances of how we hold people accountable and who we choose to ‘cancel’. It’s one of our favourite discussions to date and we’d love to hear your thoughts on the topic too so please get in touch. If you enjoyed the episode we’d be forever grateful if you could leave us a 5* review and subscribe – it really helps us out!

51: Accountability and Responsibility

We want to say a huge thank you for all your support and love for our new rebrand, we appreciate it so much! This week we’re back with in-depth chats about each of our recommendations, plus we’re talking about accountability and holding ourselves responsible. Taking ownership of our responsibilities and holding ourselves accountable is more important now than ever, whether it’s our responsibility to stand up to racism, to be more environmentally responsible, to hold ourselves accountable for our behaviour in the pandemic or just to try and be a good person. We discuss the small, everyday things we can all do to be more accountable.

50: Growth In Progress

You might have noticed that things are looking a little different around here! Don’t worry, we’re still bringing you the open and honest chats each fortnight, sharing what we’ve been up to and some of our favourite things but we felt like it was time for a change. The podcast has grown in ways we never imagined (thanks to all of your support!) so this fortnight we’re telling you a bit more about why we’ve decided on the name Growth In Progress and then discussing our own progress when it comes to self development, and what we need to keep working on.

48: Dealing With Change

A lot has changed in the past couple of weeks and we know we aren’t the only ones in this position. We thought we’d take the time to discuss how we’ve been dealing with big changes in our lives and how we approach change, whether it’s really good news or something that’s harder to come to terms with.

47: Changing Priorities

The past few months have resulted in a lot of us changing our priorities, whether or not we’ve wanted to. Even when it’s been necessary it hasn’t always been easy so this fortnight we’re discussing how our own priorities have changed recently and how we’ve dealt with the impact of that.

46: Having Difficult Conversations

None of us like having difficult conversations but they’re part of life so knowing how to navigate them and prepare for them can give you the confidence to tackle them head-on. Whether it’s calling out your racist relative, asking for that pay rise, confronting a friend or leaving a job, all of these conversations can feel hard to start. We’re sharing how we approach these topics and how to get used to initiating difficult conversations.

45: Anti-Racism Resources

This week’s episode is entirely dedicated to the anti-racism resources that we have found useful in the past few weeks. We know we still have a lot to do and that the list shared below is far from exhaustive but it’s a good place to start. Becoming actively anti-racist and being an ally is lifelong work, and something that we will continue to put in the work for both on and offline. We know that sometimes we will get it wrong but calling each other and ourselves out for it is how we can learn and do better. Please share with us any resources that you’ve found helpful recently and we can continue to share them with the rest of our community. And to our black listeners, know that we hear you, we see you, we respect you and we are committed to doing the work.

44: Problematic Lockdown Trends

A lot of new trends have sprung up in the past few weeks. Some, like dalgona coffee and TikTok dance crazes, are fine and a nice distraction. Some aren’t so great though and the competitive nature and pressure of these trends can send us into a comparison spiral. We’re discussing them all, from working out 3 times a day to baking enough banana bread to open your own bakery. We’re all just trying to find our own ways to cope but without making ourselves, or anyone else, feel crumby.
