147: Your Future Self

As we come to the end of the year and our last episode of 2022, we wanted to chat about your future self, thinking about what you want your future self to be and taking actions that your future self will thank you for. It’s easy to get caught up in goal setting and having big goals and aspirations for the new year, but when it comes to the kind of person we want to be, often it’s the smaller steps you can take that all stack up into positive habits or positive life changes that future you will thank you for.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and we’ll be back in 2023!

146: Compassionate To Do Lists

We love getting organised, tackling our goals and ticking off our to do lists, but with the end of the year fast approaching it can quickly start to feel overwhelming. That’s where compassionate to do lists come into play. Instead of focusing on how much you can tick off it’s about taking time to re-evaluate and really think what you want to achieve before the end of the year, thinking holistically about your wellbeing. It’s the perfect way to get 2023 off to the best start, whatever that means to you.

145: Scarcity vs Abundance

A scarcity mindset is thinking or feeling that there isn’t enough to go around and that you’re not worthy of success, wealth, health, love or anything positive in your life. We’re taught that wanting something is “bad” but this isn’t a conversation about manifesting these things into existence. An abundance mindset is about cultivating an outlook of openness to opportunities in life. In turn this can be so beneficial for your self-worth and gratitude towards what abundance is already in your life.

In the same way that we talk about everyone’s version of success being different. Everyone’s view of wealth and abundance is different – money is not the only metric of wealth, you can also have a wealth of love, health, warmth, laughter, friendship etc. Cultivating abundance is acknowledging that you’re worthy and deserve those things.

144: Protecting Your Energy

Protecting your energy sounds like a bit of a ‘woo’ topic but we’ve all experienced those people who you spend time with and feel drained afterwards, so this week we’re discussing our own responsibilities to recognise and counteract that. You can’t always cut negative people from your life, but you can take steps to distance yourself from those people, whether that’s moving away from colleagues at work who are always angry or negative, or consciously preparing for spending time with difficult family members and working on a more positive outlook in your own life. In the same way that there are people who bring our energy down, there are people who bring our energy up and who are energising and positive to be around – surrounding yourself with those people and working on your own attitude is a great way to protect your own energy.

143: Being Content With Your Choices

Everyday we all make thousands of choices. Some are small, simple ones with no lasting impact, others have a far more profound effect on our daily lives. When we think about these bigger decisions it’s hard not to look back and wonder whether we made the right call, whether things would have been better if we did something else or whether we should have decided differently because that’s what everyone around us is doing. But finding a way to be content with your choices, find peace in what you decided and have compassion for that version of yourself can be incredibly freeing. It can help you lean into the moment, be more grateful and learn a bit more about yourself.

142: Why It’s Okay to Change Your Mind

Having the courage to change your mind about something can feel scary. That could be a belief you once held but no longer do, it could be a life path you wanted but now want to pursue another, or it could be deciding to make lifestyle changes. But there’s a strange belief that you should follow through on all your decisions and accomplish everything you set out to, society ties changing your mind to a form of failure and that’s just not the case. It’s okay to change your mind. It’s a sign of self-growth and development – after all, no one stays the same forever. We all need to be more accepting of the fact that it’s okay to change your mind.

141: You Can’t be Everyone’s Cup of Tea

It’s a saying we’ve all heard – “You can’t be everyone’s cup of tea”, but how often do we actually remind ourselves that we can’t please everyone? We’re often so busy worrying about what everyone thinks of us that we forget to think of ourselves and how much unnecessary stress that puts us under. You can’t be everything to everyone and if you are trying to do that, it’s not only impossible, it’s also exhausting and can lead to fragmenting your own personality so you’re not even sure who the ‘real you’ is.

This is a big topic and it’s unique to everyone’s life experiences so we’re only scratching the surface of this conversation so we’d love to hear your thoughts on this too.

140: It’s Ok To Suck At Something New

Ever given something new a go and found yourself struggling to get into a rhythm? Or maybe you just feel a bit like a fraud and you don’t really know what you’re doing? Maybe it’s a new job and suddenly starting again feels like the most humbling experience? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there, we just don’t talk about it. But sucking at something when you first start is perfectly normal, it’s all part of the process and just shows you’re stepping out of your comfort zone (which we all know is one of the best things you can do). This week we’re discussing why it’s totally fine to struggle at first, how to get your ego in check and why actually it could be a good thing to not be so great at something when you first start.

139: There’s No Such Thing As Originality

No doubt most of us have felt the pressure at one point or another to be original or come up with a fresh new idea. The idea of originality and being “the first” is highly praised but in reality there is no such this has originality. No matter your thoughts, your opinions, your actions or ideas, someone will have had them before. And that’s fine! Perhaps instead of focusing on being original we need to all lean into the fact that we can’t be original? And maybe it’s time to full embrace the “trending culture” and accept that we won’t have any original ideas? We also discuss how authenticity impacts originality and whether that can be the key to creating a slightly fresher perspective.

138: Cherry Picking Advice

On the face of it, people giving advice seems like a great thing, people freely offering their advice is great and we always assume it comes from a good place. But the problem with advice is that it’s often rooted in that person’s opinions and experiences and as we get older, we realise that it’s important to cherry-pick the advice you’re given and consider what a person’s motivation is for giving you that advice.

Learning to question and cherry picking advice you’re given is definitely a skill and the responsibility is on you to decide if that advice is valuable to you and worth listening to.
