217: What If *You’re* The Problem?

Another week, another juicy topic! After chatting matcha, wedding planning and time zones, we dive headfirst into what to do, and how to cope, if actually *you* are the problem. We’ve all been there, none of us are perfect but it’s a horrible feeling to actually be called out and realise that you’re part of the problem. That said, it’s also incredibly freeing to realise that you can also change the situation and grow so buckle up for some confronting and somewhat squirmy conversations today.

216: Don’t Make a Weakness Your Entire Personality

Charlotte has been thriving at the Eras Tour, Helli has been surviving in the last couple of weeks of wedding prep – but we move! This week we’ve got an amazing app recommendation and a super helpful recommendation for finding your style.

Today we’re discussing making a weakness your whole personality – inspired by a conversation on Shameless about people who make being late their whole personality, we’re chatting about how doing this might feel easier to own it, but doing this doesn’t remove accountability and does it even benefit you? We’ve told ourselves that we’re bad at maths, Charlotte says she’s bad at parking, Helli says she has a weak upper body and is a stubborn person. Are these things actually true? Do they help you to keep sharing them with people or is it giving people a negative preconception of you? Are you perpetuating an insecurity cycle of negative self-talk?

Let us know your thoughts!

215: How to Break the Cycle of Self-Criticism

We had a lovely meet up in London this week to pick out Helli’s wedding fragrance and we’re recapping the week of wedding nightmares, Deadpool & Wolverine movie and Charlotte’s dreamy new gym.

This week we’re talking about self-criticism, it can be intrusive and insidious as well as all-consuming and often for many of us and women in particular it’s so subconscious and “normal” that you don’t realise how destructive it is. We’re still very much in the weeds of our own self-criticism but we hope having this conversation will help more people spot and break their own self-criticism cycle.

214: How Do We Start To Unpick Diet Culture?

Are you having a Brat Summer? No, we aren’t either, unless baked oats and watching the Olympics 24/7 count. But we do have some great recommendations and we start to unpick some of the damaging and unconscious biases we have surrounding diet culture. We grew up with the Special K diet, no carbs, clean eating, heroin chic, The Kardashian’s and ever other itteration of diet culture that you can imagine. And whilst we can look back now and see how harmful it was, it doesn’t mean that it’s easy to actually change our mindsets. Over the past 3 months with of us have undertaken big lifestyle changes to become our strongest, fittest and healthiest versions of ourselves, but as we’ve done that we’ve also had to start confronting some of the toxic beliefs we’ve held despite many of them starting with good intentions.

This episode contains conversations about diet culture, body image, bodyweight disordered eating and other similar themes. If those topics aren’t for you, please hit pause and listen to another episode instead.
