213: Performative Friendships

We’ve been chatting for 3 hours before this recording, fortunately we literally NEVER run out of things to talk about so enjoy this chaotic episode with returning podcast recommendations, a rogue recommendation, Helli calling out Charlotte’s 2024 Bingo Card and Charlotte’s growing love of Glen Powell (and his dog).

After a recent TikTok went viral about friends not liking each other’s posts on social media, we wanted to have a conversation about performative friendships – what are they? How do you identify them and do they even matter? Social media makes it easier than ever for relationships to be more performative, especially with the changing priorities and pressures of everyone’s lives, but what it really comes down to is how those friendships show up for you in the moments that matter. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this one!

212: How Do We Embrace AI While Still Holding Ourselves Accountable?

Helli has been navigating the waterways of England and Wales on a narrowboat, Charlotte has had a wholesome weekend in Kent and we’re catching up on all the big and small things, like fears of bats and Charlotte learning that Helli hates custard.

This week we’re chatting about AI in light of the recent controversy by SheerLuxe who introduced their newest “editor” – an AI-generated creation. It’s safe to say it did not have the effect they had hoped for and the backlash was swift. This conversation isn’t about the SheerLuxe debacle but it brought up some interesting thoughts for us around how do we embrace AI? Is AI actually stealing our jobs? How do we (and the growing AI industry) hold ourselves accountable when using AI? What disclosures should be in place?

This is just the start of AI, it’s scary because of its potential but pretending it doesn’t exist isn’t a solution either, how do we embrace it while being aware of its flaws, the disparity in who can access it and the misinformation it potentially promotes?

211: Ok, But What’s Next?

We’re back and boy do we have a lot to catch up on. We’ve got hen parties, out-of-date-but-great recommendations and we’re having a chat about the weird limbo we’ve found ourselves in recently.

It’s no secret that we’ve both been working on a few big things for a while, and we’re thrilled that we can finally say we’ve ticked some of them off. But as chronic over-achievers we can’t help but feel like we’re now in a strange mid-ground. We want to celebrate we are, but also can’t help but think about our next goals. It’s hard to break the habit of constantly looking forward, and even harder to stop and be grateful for where you are, but we’re sharing how we’re trying to and why it’s such a gear-shift.
