168: Being Hard On Yourself Is Not How To Stay Accountable

Accountability is really important for motivating yourself and holding yourself to things, but if you’re using shame, guilt, negative self-talk or self-criticism as a motivator, that isn’t the right way to keep yourself accountable. In this episode, we’re talking about how easy it is to to fall into a habit of berating ourselves if we’ve let some of our good habits slip or we’re not where we want to be with a goal or a project, but self-criticism isn’t going to make us (or you!) feel any more motivated to keep going. Holding yourself accountable, especially when life gets busy, means being compassionate and gentle accountability.

167: How To Say No When An Opportunity Isn’t Right For You

We’re conditioned to believe that we should always say yes to any opportunity that comes our way. We should be grateful for it, whatever it may be, and say yes because of the other doors it could open in the future. But recently we’ve been thinking more about when saying yes to an opportunity isn’t actually the right thing for us. Maybe it’s not aligned to your longer term goals, maybe it’s something a previous version of yourself would have loved but it’s not quite right now, or maybe it just doesn’t spark any type of joy or excitement. There are plenty of times when saying “no” to an opportunity is far better than accepting it and understanding the difference can actually help you get closer to your goals.

166: The Difference Between Backing Down and Stepping Back

Backing down and stepping back might sound the same and they could often be used interchangeably. But are we’ve gotten older, we’ve realised that stepping back doesn’t mean defeat or that you’re giving in. Stepping back can mean enforcing boundaries, de-escalating a situation or protecting yourself.

There’s a lot of nuance in conflicts with colleagues, family or friends and standing up for what you believe or what you think is right is important. But it’s also important to recognise that it’s not your responsibility to make someone else see your point of view or take action.

165: Being Patient & Holding Yourself Accountable

We all want to be successful, and we want to be successful *right now*. But there’s a lot to be said for having some patience and holding yourself accountable to your goals over a longer period of time. There really is no thing as an overnight success, in reality it often takes years of hard work, growth and holding yourself accountable to achieve the things you want. We know it can feel so frustrating when you just want to get there but if you give yourself time and stay consistent then you’re far more likely to be on the right track. This week we’re sharing how we cultivate that patience in ourselves and why it can be so valuable to success.

164: Money, Shame And How To Overcome It

Shame and money are so closely intertwined. Whether you’re worried that you don’t have enough or you’re worried that you may be perceived badly for having more than you need, shame is often felt when money is discussed. There doesn’t need to be the association between shame and money though, and if we start to speak about it more then we can combat the shame we’ve all felt. Money, wanting it and having it, isn’t inherently bad and so associating it so closely with shame serves no one.

In this episode we’re discussing why shame has no part to play in the conversation about money, how you can combat your own judgements and why shame even exists around money.
